Transforming Lives in Qaratana Village

In the remote village of Qaratana, located 35 kilometers away from Faryab province, life was a daily struggle for the 588 families residing there. The village lacked essential facilities such as schools, healthcare centers, and most critically, safe drinking water, exposing the residents to numerous challenges. Drinking from open water sources posed health risks, and inadequate hygiene practices further worsened their conditions. The situation was dire, and due to widespread poverty, transferring patients to distant hospitals was often impossible.

The Pipe Scheme project brought hope to Qaratana. Launched on May 12, 2023, the project is funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, facilitated by The Islamic Development Bank and The Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Implemented by DACAAR, the project aimed to construct a comprehensive water supply network and promote hygiene practices within the community.

By the project's completion on May 11, 2024, the transformation in Qaratana was profound. Villagers now have access to safe drinking water, significantly improving their health and overall well-being. Hygiene practices have been established, and the once challenging environment is now clean and nurturing.

Haji Fazluddin, a beneficiary of the project, expressed his gratitude: "I am happy that we received such life-saving messages through the implementation of this project and have easy access to safe drinking water. Thanks to DACAAR and its donors for initiating the project in our area."

The success of the Pipe Scheme project in Qaratana stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and community-driven initiatives. It highlights how targeted interventions can bring lasting change, improving lives and providing hope for a better future.
